Write Starters |
Sometimes when I sit down to write, there is nothing in particular to say.
When that happens, I like to 'free write'. When you free write, don't
be concerned with penmanship or spelling or punctuation. Just write. Free writing often opens my
pen to possibility. From possibility comes poetry. And
when poetry still doesn't occur, at least writing happens. Remember,
writers write!
Here are some ideas to get you started (or not): |
I remember when... (what
did it smell like, feel like, sound like, taste like?) |
On the street I used to live on... |
I wish... |
I am happy when... |
I am sad when... |
I am confused when... |
When I was young, I used to believe... |
Write a letter to who you were 5 years ago
(10 years ago, 10 years from now) |
If today were a meal, what would it taste
like? |
If today were a dance, what are the steps? |
Make a list of what makes you smile. |
Make a list of what makes you angry. |
I love... |
I hate... |
I feel strong when... |
