Anxiety
Red like hot fire, like anger, like
pain.
Gray like haze, like stone, like fear.
It happens before an interview, when you
receive a test,
when a friend is in an accident.
Sounds like nails scraping a chalkboard,
like a piercing scream,
like tires screeching.
Smells like oil, like smoke, like
burning rubber.

Vengefulness
Grey like a haunting gargoyle made of
stone,
like the hairs on your back that stand
up on end,
a devilish stare your enemy would give…
Yellow like the moon’s ghoulish smile on
All Hallows Eve,
like a goblin’s cackling laugh,
a black cat’s peering eyes…
Feels like a kittens rough tongue on
your skin,
like a sharp stone embedded in your
hand,
a furious dog’s stinging bite.
Smells like a musty forest,
like a lion’s hot breath after pouncing
on his prey,
droplets of sweat trickling down your
neck
after waking up from a nightmare.
Sounds like chalk screeching on a
blackboard,
like a banshee’s shrieking cry,
a boiling cauldron exposing small green
bubbles.
It happens when you want to seek
revenge,
when you feel overwhelmed with jealousy.

Terror
Black like a silent night, like a shadow
watching you,
like the dark heart of evil.
It happens when a war breaks out, a
terrorist attacks,
when you’re all alone.
It sounds like a deafening beat of a
heart,
like a child screaming at an invader,
like a door creaking open when the clock
strikes 12:00.
It looks like a masked robber, like a
murderer, like a war.

Hope
Yellow like sunlight glistening on a
soft carpet,
like a trophy from a sporting event,
like Kobe Bryant’s jersey as he weaves
through defenders
for a two-handed slam-dunk.
It happens when your grades start to
improve,
when your adrenaline starts to pump,
when you see the light at the end of the
tunnel.
It sounds like the wind whispering,
birds chirping,
and leaves rustling.
It smells like decorative Christmas
cookies
freshly baked on Christmas Eve,
like turkey on Thanksgiving Day,
and fresh brewed coffee in the morning.
It tastes like a crisp ripe apple, like
a hot cheesy slice of pizza,
like chocolate chip cookies and a glass
of cold milk.
It looks like a sunrise,
like an aurora borealis and the stars
gleaming at night.
It feels like petting a kitten’s soft
fur, like a fluffy pillow,
like a warm blanket on a chilly winter’s
night.

Anger
Red like fire, like leaves in the
autumn, like a barn on a farm.
Black like charcoal, like shadows hidden
in the darkness.
It happens when a day goes wrong,
when you can’t stand the world anymore.
It sounds like glass shattering, like
thunder booming,
like a young child screaming.

Anger
Red like the flames of fire, like hot
lumps of coal,
like wild roses thirsting for water.
Black like nightfall, like dark caves,
like death.
It happens when rumors are spread about
you,
you get frustrated, you become grounded.
It sounds like misery, like a pack of
wolves howling,
like someone crying in the night.
It smells like dirt that holds a coffin,
like tear drops falling,
like burnt toast.
It tastes like sorrow, stale chocolate
chip cookies,
salty ocean water.
It feels like hunger, like a stomach
ache, like emptiness.
It looks like death, like bones of a
body from years ago,
like a sky with no stars.

Anger
If anger was a color, it would be red.
Red is the color your face turns when
your peers
call you hurtful names,
like blood trickling down your arm, like
an explosion of fury.
Orange could also represent anger.
Orange is the color of a pumpkin smashed
on the sidewalk,
like dancing flames that lick the air.
Anger can be expressed as big as the
orange planet, Jupiter.
It happens when you are humiliated,
when a fight starts,
and when your friend isn’t a friend
anymore.
If anger had a sound, it would sound
like a tortured screaming,
like fists pounding the ground,
like a fully grown lion roaring.
If anger has a smell, it would smell
like smog,
like the stench of vomit, like rotting
dead.
